 October sees a shift of gears in two areas: Jupiter moves direct after 4 months of retrograde motion and Saturn moves in to Libra in preparation for squaring Pluto next month. The energy highlight is the semi-sextile between Uranus and Neptune that is enhancing their current relationship of mutual reception or ‘exchange of energies’.

 Early risers can see Mercury, Venus and Saturn in the Eastern sky as they are all travelling through the sign of Virgo. They can be seen rising just before the Sun.

1.    October Overview

 Jupiter, Chiron, Uranus, and Neptune all continue their retrograde motion, emphasizing the process of review and reflection that has been a prominent feature of the last couple of months. This month Jupiter leaves the retro pack and moves direct on October 13.

 Mercury moved direct on September 29 but does not leave the retrograde loop until October 14.  Communications may be slow for the first week of October and may not return to’ normal’ until Mercury leaves the retrograde loop. The first two weeks of October are the time to express any insights gained through the retrograde phase and put new plans into action

Remember, Mercury retrograde always provides us with the opportunity to free our thinking from habitual ruts and develop a more conscious set of mental attitudes and beliefs.

 On October 10 Mercury squares Pluto for the 3^rd and final time, giving our words more power and sting. I would advise against speaking out around this time as your words could have more venom than you intend. Try to not get drawn into other people’s malicious gossip, either, but it is a great time for using this energy constrictively and confronting your shadow and fears.

 The Full Moon on October 4 is in the Libra / Aries polarity and invites us all to look at where we may be out of balance. This polarity deals with the conflicting needs for freedom, independence, adventure and competition [Aries] and the needs for fairness, compromise, and co-operation [Libra]. If you have swung too far to one extreme it may become obvious as your sub-conscious seeks redress.

 Overall the Full Moon chart is without major confronting aspects to the luminaries [Sun and Moon]. It does contains several planets at 23 degrees of various signs, including Neptune, Uranus, Mercury, Juno and Mars plus Chiron at 21. . This means that there are many exact aspects operating in this chart and they will be activating the charts of individuals who have planets around 21 to 24 degrees.

  On October 5 Uranus semi-sextiles Neptune, intensifying the current bond of mutual reception that exists between these two planets during the years 2003 to 2011. This relationship of ‘mutual reception, highlights all things Uranian and Neptunian or [Aquarian and Piscean], bringing them into conscious relationship. In esoteric astrology these two planets are said to rule the third eye, suggesting the possibility for psychic awakenings and deeper levels of ‘seeing’ for those whose third eye is open.  This configuration has been referred to as where Science [Aquarius] meets Spirituality [Pisces]. See section 3 for more information.

 Jupiter, the planetary symbol of the process of growth and expansion turns direct on October 13 at 17Ò Aquarius after completing its annual cycle of retrograde motion which began during June. As Jupiter slows down, stations and turns direct his energy becomes more focused and intensified. This can be a potent time to reflect on what / where you seek to expand in terms of both physical manifestation and spiritual/ psychological growth.

Jupiter’s retrograde motion [June 15 to October 13] can mark a time of ego deflation and stagnant growth that forces us to see things from a new perspective. During the retrograde phase we are challenged to review our growth and examine our moral codes to see where

1.      We may have been too inflated, impulsive, and arrogant or naïve – or

2.      Where we may sabotage our growth through fear and negativity.

If you have felt frustrated in your attempts to move forwards and manifest your visions, Jupiter moving direct can assist you to move forward with renewed optimism, especially in the area of your life symbolized by the house where Jupiter is transiting.

  The New Moon on October 18 is in the sign of Libra. This chart highlights the auspicious Jupiter, Chiron, Neptune conjunction as it trines [supports] the New Moon, making this a very powerful time to set intentions, become more positive [Jupiter], seek healing [Chiron] and open your heart and seek inner vision [Neptune] 

  Saturn changes sign and moves from mutable Virgo to cardinal Libra on October 30. Traditional astrology says Libra is exalted [comfortable] in Libra, suggesting that this transit may bring some support, at least on a mundane or collective level. See section 2 for more information.

 2. Saturn to Libra on October 30 at 4.09am AEST

·        Retrogrades back into Virgo on April 8, 2010

·        Moves back into Libra on July 22 2010

 Saturn, [the Reality Principle and Lord of Karma] moves into the sign of Libra on October 30. Saturn takes about 29 ½ years to orbit the Sun and therefore spends about 2 ½ years in each sign. Saturn will transit Libra until October 2012 with a brief re-entry into Virgo during from early April to late July 2010. 

 Saturn always challenges us to take responsibility for our lives and offers us the opportunity to learn from life and develop wisdom and maturity. As Saturn transits Libra it challenges us to review and restructure the realm of Libra personally and collectively.

 Libra’s symbol is the scales which are very sensitive and easily put out of balance. Libra therefore symbolizes our personal and collective need for

• Harmony, equilibrium and balance
• Fairness and social justice
• Co-operation and compromise
• Beauty and harmony.

 On a collective [or mundane] level Libra rules

• Diplomacy [United Nations etc]
• Alliances & treaties
• Legal systems
• Organizations concerned with arbitration, counselling, mediation and social justice

 Saturn in Libra calls on us to take responsibility in all these areas and may herald a greater willingness for nations and individuals to compromise and create new structures that create a fairer, more just society. Perhaps Barack Obama’s calls for a new world order based more on co-operation will begin to be heeded. Let’s hope so!

 On a personal level Saturn in Libra will challenge us all to become more balanced. You may feel called to reflect on

• How and where you seek fairness.
• How and where you may be out of balance.
• Are you comfortable co-operating and compromising?
• Do you give too little or too much? Or do you do both in different areas of your life.
• Where do you need to become more open to compromise?

 Libra is also connected with our need for partnership and relationship and calls on us to re-evaluate our significant one-on-one relationships [including marriage, lovers, business partnerships, close friendships] and indulge in some serious re-structuring where necessary so both partners feel their needs are being honoured.

 If you know the house where Libra is found in your chart you can ask yourself the following questions.

• What are my priorities here?
• What work needs to be done?
• What can I take responsibility for?
• What responsibilities have I been avoiding?
• What fears do I need to face?
• Am I giving in to fear and negativity? To my inner critic and saboteur?

Saturn moving into Libra will challenge all Librans over the next 2 ½ years as well as those with planets in Libra and all the other cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer and Capricorn Those born in the first week of each of these signs will feel the effects over the next few months.

  3.    Uranus semi-sextile Neptune

 Uranus semi-sextiles Neptune on October 5 for the second of three ‘hits’, intensifying the current bond of mutual reception that exists between these two planets. Mutual reception occurs when two planets are found in each other’s natural signs, creating a sympathetic connection and a blending of the two energies. Ancient astrologers called this condition “exchange of signs,” and believed that it provided mutual support and helped each individual planet withstand tension. Modern astrologers describe mutual reception as creating an affinity or synergy between the two planets in question.

 Currently Uranus is in Pisces from 2003 to 2011 [the sign that Neptune rules] and Neptune is in Aquarius from 1998 to2012 [the sign that Uranus rules], so between 2003 and 2011 these two planets are said to be in ‘mutual reception’. .This means that all things Uranian and Neptunian are currently being emphasized, highlighting the Aquarian and Piscean archetypes and bringing them into relationship.

 The mutual reception is facilitating a number of significant relationships that are being powerfully intensified by the semi-sextile aspect. Both these planets are called transpersonal planets as they move very slowly and tend to reflect changes in the collective psyche.  Furthermore, esoteric traditions associate these two planets with the third eye and altered states of consciousness. Children being born in this time frame [2003 -2010-11] are naturally wired to a vastly different inner landscape and have will have the potential to be leaders in synthesizing these energies. Anything is possible when we embrace this new paradigm – if you can imagine it, then it can exist

 .On a mundane level the mutual reception could lead to

·        further breakthroughs in the world of quantum physics that seem to come full circle and embrace metaphysical wisdom

·        new technologies that deal with the unseen forms of energy in all areas: medicine, science etc

·        breakthroughs in water technology /conservation

·        breakthroughs in medical technology / treatment, especially that which deals with the immune system, nervous system, endocrine system and chemical imbalances.

·        greater understanding of illnesses due to pollution and chemical toxicity

·        healing techniques that harness the power of the imagination as well as the power of compassion. Many individuals and groups are well advanced in this area and organizations such as the Heart Math Institute in the US are at the forefront of linking emotional states with medical conditions.

·        new visions of world peace

·        new humanitarian and social movements

 On a personal level this synergy suggests the potential for

• greater sensitivity [positive as well as chemical sensitivity]
• greater compassion
• heightened intuition
• opening of the ‘inner eye’ or ‘third eye’
