 This is a brief newsletter to keep you informed about the current eclipse season. Like many of you I have found the energy tiring and challenging.

 The July 1 eclipse is very powerful as it creates a grand cross formation with the 3 planets that have formed the cardinal t-square that has been a prominent feature of the last few years. As eclipse can be triggers for chaos or liberation I urge you to find the time to reflect on your life and what needs to change.

1. July Overview

 All dates and times are for Australian Eastern Standard Time.

 Pluto and Neptune are retrograde all month. Uranus joins them on July 10.

The New Moon at 9 Cancer on July 1 is a Partial Solar Eclipse that powerfully re-activates the cardinal cross. This eclipse is extremely potent as it reactivates the Cardinal t-square that is the major astrological significator of the challenging energy that has been active since 2008 and will continue through to 2015. Any individual or nation with planets in early to mid degrees of the cardinal signs [Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn] will be feeling the intense pressure to change  [Uranus and Pluto] along with an equally strong fear of doing things differently [Saturn and Pluto].

 The cardinal t-square features 3 of the 4 most distant and powerful planets in our solar system [Saturn, Uranus and Pluto] forming a 7 year tense relationship that is unlike anything since Great Depression in the early 1930's. It symbolizes the need to let go the past and move forward into multiple new domains at once.  The image is one of a cross road; we need to consider carefully where we want to go and what road will get us there. 

This eclipse actually forms the 'missing leg' of the cardinal cross to form what is known in astrology as a grand cross. A grand cross is a vey tense configuration that contains at least four planets in a tense aspect. The planetary archetypes need to find a constructive way to relate to each other when the square and opposition aspects suggest that this is a source of stress and they would rather go off and 'do their own thing'.  As they are in relationship they cannot 'do their own thing' without it having negative consequences for the others. Somehow they need to find a way to work together, or at least learn to compromise when this is not what they want to do. 

In essence this eclipse is asking us all, personally and collectively to:

1. Examine our lives and see what structures no longer serve us
2. Meet our fears about letting go / transforming these structures that may have served us very well until now.
3. Change direction and create new structures that reflect the person [or nation, or institution, or structure of any kind] we want to be, rather the person we were. The new structures must meet the needs of the individual and society as it is now and wishes to become.

We can no longer talk about the changes we want to see without doing something about them. 

How then can we navigate through this time? 

Collectively we need to find the will to make deep seated structural changes to our society on all levels: political, economic, social, technological, environmental and cultural. Institutions that no longer meet the needs of a 21^st Century Global Village that is faced with huge environmental, energy, political and humanitarian challenges must be changed. The planets suggest that the longer we put this off the more chaotic the effects will be. 

Personally we must find a way to sit in our centre and not be pulled out of balance. This is something that is easy to say and much more difficult to achieve when the energies are so potent and conflicting. Fear and anxiety can easily paralyse us so we miss the opportunity that exists within a pattern such as this. This energy is chaotic, but chaos can be constructive when it facilitates the breakdown of old patterns and structures that no longer serve us. This allows us to re-build or re-organize in a way that allows us to move forward instead of staying trapped in the past.

Individually we each need to create still spaces in our lives where we can sit with whatever we are feeling and use it as a catalyst to move forward.  

If this feels too hard then we must give ourselves permission to deal with the fear/ grief/ anxiety that is holding us hostage so we can find a way to our centre. 

Note: If your birthday is five to 10 days either side of the solar eclipse it could mark the end of a period of difficulty. It will be very empowering to set new intentions for your life and create a small ritual to honor this event. 

A few words about the impact on Australia 

The last times the 3 major heavies in this configuration were together was during both the Great Depression and the Swinging 60's, both times of enormous change and upheaval. The economic structures of the world are crumbling and a number of nations are facing bankruptcy.  

The eclipse is opposite Australia's Sun/ Saturn conjunction and we are certainly experiencing a crisis of leadership at the moment. The eclipse also suggests we are undergoing something of an identity crisis and need to forge a new direction. Pluto is currently conjuncting our Saturn and will conjunct our Sun in 2012 - 2013 while Uranus will square our Sun / Saturn next year as well. Australia is literally at a cross roads and the next few years promise to be challenging but with the potential for constructive change emerging from the chaos. 

Some general information on eclipses from last month 

Solar Eclipses are powerful New Moons that can only occur when the Sun, Moon and Earth align with the transiting Nodes of the Moon. A Solar Eclipse occurs when the Moon shadows all [total eclipse], or part [partial eclipse], of the Sun. In myth this was often depicted as a battle between the forces of light and dark where humanity entered into a time of uncertainty. Eventually the forces of light prevail and life continues. 

Eclipses tend to be neutral energetically but they often function to bring to the surface whatever has been buried, hidden and repressed, especially regards the sign and house where the eclipse falls in the personal horoscope. Any planet that is conjuncted or opposed by the eclipse will also come up for review. Eclipses can herald a crisis but they also provide the opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start again. In essence, Solar Eclipses are very potent New Moons that mark endings and beginnings.
