January 2007                                                      christiner@netspace.net.au

The year begins with Pluto continuing to conjunct the Galactic Centre at 26° 56.9 Sagittarius.  This transit will continue to be the keynote for 2007 as Pluto will return to this point in June and remain within a one degree orb until November. 2007 will continue to be a year of major transformations and purifications where we will be continually called on to let go old identities and beliefs.

This newsletter is longer than usual as it will focus on the lunar cycle for 2007. It includes my article, ‘Working With the Cycles of the Moon’ that you can also find posted on my website.

Blessings

January is over shadowed by Pluto’s intense energy as Pluto continues its transit of the Galactic Centre.  This transit heralds a major paradigm shift on many levels.  The focus point for this month will be the planet Mars joining Pluto at the Galactic Centre from January 12 to 15. Mars / Pluto transits are notorious for the destructive release of repressed and pent up anger. Mars the Warrior meets Pluto the God of Death and Re-birth in the sign of Sagittarius.  This fiery combination can lead to anger, obsession, violence and self destructive behaviour. Constructively channelled it is the spiritual warrior of the highest calibre, fearlessly confronting and battling inner demons and bringing them into the light where they lose their power.

January is the month to face your shadow and internal anger and rage and not let it be in control. It is also a time to feel and own your fear and to claim your warrior spirit do what your heart tells you is right.

Here is some more information about the Galactic Centre.  Eventually I will put all the information I have discovered into one article, but for now it continue to come in bits and pieces.

The ancient wisdom of the Egyptians and Greeks [and Mayans] described the Galactic Centre as the Golden Gate. This was the portal through which the Gods could descend as well as a gateway to a realm that exists beyond reincarnationThe Golden Gate is at the point where the ecliptic crosses the Milky Way, just near Galactic Centre (GC); the part of the sky which was of great interest to the Mayan people. At the other end of the Milky Way, the Silver Gate is above Orion, at the centre of the Duat; the Egyptian Netherworld which was represented on the ground in the Giza area. The ancient Greeks, who received much of their knowledge from Egypt, believed that souls reside in the Milky Way between incarnations, and that there are 2 “gates” on the Milky Way. These are the Silver Gate of Gemini, through which souls descend to earth, and the Golden Gate of Sagittarius, through which souls ascend. Other versions say the souls of men (humans) can ascend by either gate, but that the Silver Gate leads to reincarnation and the ancestors, and the Golden Gate leads beyond reincarnation. The Golden Gate is also that through which the Gods descend.

The Silver Gate is just above the “hand” of Orion, who the Egyptians associated with Osiris, and they depicted him holding a star in his hand. In the Orion Mystery, Bauval & Gilbert presumed this to be the star Aldebaran. Now, Gilbert has found that the Egyptian word for star, s’ba, also means “door”, so Osiris is holding a Star-Gate. In some depictions, Osiris is holding an ankh towards the gate, so this must be the key which unlocks the star-gate.http://www.diagnosis2012.co.uk/7.htm

More information on the Pluto’s conjunction of the Galactic Centre is contained in the May, July and December newsletters posted on my website www.christinerothwell.com

By January 20 there will be a line up of 5 planets [six briefly if we include the Moon] in Aquarius. The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Chiron and Neptune will all be transiting the sign of the Water Bearer. Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, the Great Awakener and Revolutionary who seeks to awaken us to our potential and free us from culturally conditioned values. Aquarius is associated with the archetypes of the humanitarian, the reformer, the bohemian and its shadow can be the anarchist, the fanatic and the deviant. T

The mood will lighten as Aquarius is a sociable energy and invites us to find ways to express our uniqueness, our passions for freedom and social justice and our need to participate in some form of community.

January 21 sees the second Venus conjunction of the Moon since Venus reappeared as the Evening Star last month.  In Sumerian myth these conjunctions were said to be portals that opened to allow the Goddess Inanna to reclaim the seven symbols of Her power that She relinquished when She made Her descent during Her time as Morning Star. These symbols correlate with the seven chakras and Her descent and ascent is a metaphor for a process of initiation.

Moon-Venus conjunctions are powerful times for ritual and inner work. The evening of January 20 would be an appropriate time to focus on second chakra issues that relate to the lunar concerns of emotional connection, fertility, sexual intimacy, desire and pleasure. Call on the power of the Moon Goddess, Pluto and the Galactic Centre to assist you to release negative emotional patterns that sabotage your conscious desires for intimate union such as neediness, fear of abandonment, possessiveness and revenge.

Call your spirit back from past wounds and see if you can cultivate the practice of honouring the Goddess and God within yourself and every person you encounter. You may prefer to honour this gateway by spending some time consciously nurturing yourself and doing something you find pleasurable.

January 23 sees the waning square of Jupiter to Uranus that belongs to a cycle that was seeded at the conjunction in 1997. The Jupiter-Uranus cycle relates to cultural creativity, discoveries and innovations. There will be three exact aspects between these two planets this year

·        January 23

·        May 11

·        October 10.

A waning square always speaks of the need for review and revision – perhaps relating back to an impulse that was seeded in 1997. Uranus symbolizes our desire for freedom and Jupiter is an impulsive energy that seeks to expand its vision, and a square aspect suggests tension and conflict so the combination of these two energies may be rebellious, impatient and unpredictable. It also suggests a creative process that is facilitated through tension and conflict.

2.    New Moon in Capricorn: January 19: 3:02pm

The New Moon marks the beginning of a lunation or lunar cycle.  The energy is strong, focused and extroverted.  This is a powerful time to set intentions, start new projects, initiate change, focus energy on a specific goal, trust your intuition AND access the warrior spirit of the Amazon.

The New Moon in Capricorn is the time to set intentions and goals relating to the Capricorn energy. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, so this is a logical time to re-evaluate all the structures in our lives and take responsibility for what we would like to change.

Capricorn is a practical earth sign that can be realistic, serious, industrious, disciplined, responsible, grounded, patient, and ambitious. We are all challenged to harness this energy and review how we relate to Capricorn’s main concerns:

  • career
  • the search for recognition and approval
  • relationship with authority figures [including internal authority figures].

Capricorn also rules the bones and skeletal system suggesting that on a more mundane level it may be timely to pay a visit to the dentist or body worker for a tune up.

The shadow side of Capricorn can be materialistic, fearful, calculating, inhibited, rigid, judgemental and ruthless. Often these traits are internalized in the form of a severe inner critic who demands perfection, yet paradoxically inhibits our self expression.  This new moon is a perfect time to dialogue with the inner critic and reclaim your power from those who have played this role in your past.

On a lighter note, this is a time to honour the structures in our lives that nurture us. You can do this by creating a list of the structures that you feel grateful for in your life and by expressing gratitude to those who have supported you in any way.
