 Mercury retrograde has done a number on me [computer crash] so this newsletter will be very brief. I have a few words to say about the current economic situation and the usual monthly overview. Pluto is challenging us with our worst fears at the moment with the economic meltdown in the U.S.

The Plutonic clearing phase is intensifying as Pluto prepares to leave Sagittarius [and the Galactic Centre] for the last time this cycle. By late November Pluto will move into Capricorn and leave Sagittarius behind for nearly 250 years. This is emphasizing the clearing process that began in 2006 when Pluto first conjuncted the Galactic Centre.

 Pluto’s task is to create situations where we feel out of control so we are forced to face and hopefully master our fears. The current state of the world is like the ancient initiation chambers where the initiates were entombed to face and demonstrate mastery over their fear and inner demons. Climate change, peak oil, the sub prime fiasco in US, banks failing, recession and perhaps depression are leading humanity towards mass fear and panic. Our challenge here is not to buy into the collective fear, find a way to remain as calm and centered as possible and deal with the situation constrictively.

 Pluto is the God of Death and Rebirth and rules the process of transformation. It is important to remember that every cycle of clearing and endings offers the potential for something new. The cycle of life constantly renews itself. There is obviously much more clearing and purging to take place in the realms of finance, business, government and law and order as Pluto approaches Capricorn later this year. Our challenge is to find a way to be with these changes that doesn’t contribute to the collective hysteria.  Uranus and Saturn will form the first of 5 oppositions early next month, right on cue with the U.S. elections. Here we see the forces of change, democracy, equality and universal brother/sisterhood [Uranus] clashing with Saturn, the status quo, tradition, conservatism, fear and rigidity. The two contenders have become literal embodiments of this aspect. More on this next newsletter.

 The Sun [13 Libra] squares Jupiter [13 Capricorn] on October 6, giving the week either side a more impulsive flavour. Try to think before you act or speak now.

 The North Node is still conjunct Chiron [has been since late May] and will continue this dance until late October. The North Node is a symbol of future directions and potentials that need to be developed and Chiron offers the opportunity to heal old wounds, especially wounds around rejection and alienation that may be holding us back from moving forward. The potential is for reconciliation of opposites that appear irreconcilable – both within and without. This continues to be a very powerful times for meditation, insight and personal and collective healing rites and rituals.

 Mercury turned retrograde on September 24th, a process that heralds a new Mercury cycle that will begin on October 7 when Mercury conjuncts the Sun. The whole retrograde phase is a potent time for reflection and review – a time when we can become aware of habitual beliefs and thought patterns and make the adjustments necessary to align our thinking with the person we are now. This is a great time to meditate, reflect, research, seek answers, sort out your paperwork, return calls and generally attend to all the things you have been too busy to do earlier. 

 This s also a time when normal communications can go haywire and things often don’t run to plan. [see www.christinerothwell.com/page5.htm ]  Remember to be patient, maintain your sense of humour, CHECK ALL PLANS, BACK UP YOUR DATA AND DON’T TAKE IT PERSONALLY IF THINGS GO WRONG!

 As the retrograde cycle moves mainly through the sign of Libra it is inviting us to attend to all things ruled by this sign, including our relationships and partnerships, the need for harmony and co-operation as well as concerns for fairness and social justice. This may be a time when you are called on to see things from others perspectives and make some compromises for the sake of harmony.  Remember Mercury retrograde always provides us with the opportunity to free our thinking from habitual ruts and develop a more conscious set of mental attitudes and beliefs.

 Concerns may arise over the first few weeks and the answers and insight can appear when the new cycle begins on October 2^nd, Sit with your insights until after October 16 when Mercury goes direct. The next few weeks are the time to express your insights and put new plans into action.

First year covers all the basics that you need to begin to understand a birth chart. Second year goes deeper and looks at predictive techniques, relationship astrology and much more.
