Uranus to Pisces: Changing Paradigms
On March 11 2003, Uranus, the Great Awakener moved into the sign of Pisces and will remain in Pisces watery domain until 2011.
Uranus is named after the original sky god and takes 84 years to orbit the Sun, spending about seven years in each of the twelve signs. Uranus is a transpersonal planet, the first planet beyond the boundaries of Saturn and always challenges us to move beyond the limitations of our socialization and awaken to our individuality and larger truths. As a transpersonal planet Uranus serves the needs of the individual and collective soul, rather that the ego's conscious wishes and desires.
Uranus is identified with the principle of change and seeks to destroy stagnant and out dated structures, beliefs and philosophies. His action is often confronting and challenging and can become chaotic and disruptive when we resist the change that our soul demands. The last time Uranus was in Pisces was between 1919 and 1927, better known as the Roaring Twenties. The Great War had just ended and people everywhere were eager to throw off the inhibitions of the Victorian era and break free. Many were scandalized and shocked by the changes but we can look back on this time to see the beginning of the modern era. This was the time of Art Deco, when the film industry developed 'talking pictures' and women's fashion took a leap with the first short dresses and freedom from the corset. It was also the time when theosophy bloomed and modern depth psychology came to prominence. On the dark side were the birthing of totalitarian ideologies in the form of fascism and Stalinism.
So what can we expect during this time? As Uranus moves into Pisces we can expect challenges, changes and new revolutionary ideas in all the areas that Pisces symbolizes including:
· the Arts: including design, clothing, architecture, film, music and dance
· the psychic and intuitive realms: E.S.P., energy healing, telepathy
· altered states of conscious: meditation, dreams, mind altering drugs
· spirituality
· the search for ecstasy and transcendence of ego boundaries
· new visions of world peace
· greater prominence of the Piscean archetypes of savior, victim, martyr and spiritual warrior
· understanding the immune system
· new ideologies / belief systems
· new psychological models that allow a deeper understanding of the human psyche
· water increasingly being seen as a valuable commodity as clean supplies become more precious
It has been suggested that Uranus in Pisces is where science meets spirituality, where quantum physics meets metaphysics. The New Age Industries built on shaky foundations and false prophets will eventually be exposed while those offering a genuine alternative based on substance will prosper.
Christianity is associated with the sign of the fish so we can expect more challenges and possibly significant changes to the mainstream churches and even to the status of Christianity as a whole. Women priests will become more a reality and perhaps humanity is ready for the archetype of priestess once more.
The downside of this shift could be experienced in the following ways
· increasing naïveté that draws people into movements that offer simplistic solutions in the spiritual, political and economic spheres
· more victimization and marginalization of fringe groups
· rise of skepticism to balance the naïveté
· new mind altering and possibly controlling drugs
· more destructive computer viruses
· nerve, germ and biological warfare [ as Pluto continues to transit Sagittarius and Mars the warrior retrograde in Pisces during August and September]
· increase in Martyrdom, people willing to die for their beliefs
· more immune system illnesses relating to environmental toxins
Uranus is always seeking to move us out of our comfort zone and into new realms of experience. Our individual challenges are to embrace change and find new ways of expressing our individuality in all the areas that Pisces symbolizes as Uranus awakens us to the watery realm of the fish.
