July begins with Pluto and Saturn retrograde and Neptune joining them on July 2. July 2: Mercury to Leo July 2: Neptune stations retrograde July 6: New Moon in Cancer July 12: Venus to Leo July 16: Mars will conjunct Uranus in Taurus July 21: Full Moon in Capricorn July 21: Mars to Gemini July 22: Sun to Leo July 23: Sun opposes Pluto July 26: Mercury to Virgo
Pluto makes a big statement this month as He reaches the mid-point of his retrograde cycle on July 23 when He opposes the Sun. At this point he will be at His closest point to Mother Earth in his annual cycle. He also figures prominently in the Full Moon chart for July 21, forming a very tight conjunction with the Moon. This suggests a time of possible insight into the areas of our chart where Pluto is transiting and will be applicable to the house where Pluto is transiting [around late degrees of cardinal signs and early degrees on fixed signs] as well as any planets or points that Pluto aspects this year.
As God of the Underworld and ruler of the process of Death, Rebirth and Transformation we may find it illuminating to reflect on our personal Underworld and what we have buried there. More information under the Full Moon in Capricorn.
The few days around July 16 may also be eventful for people with planets around 25-6 degrees of fixed signs as Mars conjuncts Uranus at this time. Expect the unexpected and be prepared to be challenged if this is the case.
New Moon at 14 Cancer on July 6 This new moon has mainly positive aspects with a wide conjunction to Venus and a sextile to Mars. The supportive aspects suggest that this lunation can be a positive time for ‘nesting’ and spending time with family and loved ones.
Cancer New Moons always evoke strong emotional currents and invite us to reflect on family, the past and our emotional connections and bonds as they stimulate the Cancer archetype and all things ruled by this watery and emotional sign. This is a potent time to meditate on what nurtures us and how well we are meeting our needs for connection and belonging. We may feel called to do some ‘nesting’ and explore new ways of feeling safe, nurtured and contained
Full Moon at close to 29 Capricorn on July 21 This is the second full moon in Capricorn in a row as the last one was at 1 degree of Capricorn on June 22 [last month] and this one is at 29 degrees of Capricorn. This lunation therefore echoes last month’s full moon as it invites us to reflect on the Cancer Capricorn and how we balance these two energies: home life and career, public and private life, nurturing and authority, bonding and setting boundaries.
Pluto is in a tight conjunction with the Moon at 0 Aquarius and the full moon forms a t-square with Chiron in Aries at the apex. 29 degrees of any sign is referred to as the anaretic or ‘crisis’ degree which speaks of the need to gather together what we have learned about the Capricorn archetype, especially as Pluto’s transit here is coming to completion next year.
Pluto’s involvement may highlight our shadow self and fear-based patterns, especially around issues to do with power, control, trust and betrayal. Through the illumination of these patterns, we have the opportunity to gain more insight and awareness so we can work at letting them go and find a greater sense of inner safety. Potentially this lunation calls us to re-claim our personal authority and experience empowerment that is not at the expense of others.
The square to Chiron invites us to open to the healing images in our dreams that may lead to greater self-acceptance. It may be time an opportune time to reflect on where and how you have you held yourself back because you fear the rejection of those around you if you truly own your individuality.
