December begins with Jupiter, Chiron, Uranus and  Neptune retrograde. By the end of the month all planets are moving forwards except for Uranus and Mercury which stations retrograde on the 13th.
Note: All the dates below are for Australian Eastern Daylight Time.
December 2: Mercury to Capricorn
December 5: Venus to Scorpio
December 7: Neptune stations direct
December 13: Mercury stations retrograde
December 13: New Moon in Sagittarius
December 22: Summer Solstice / Sun to Capricorn
December 27 Full Moon in Cancer & Chiron stations direct
December 30: Venus to Sagittarius
December 31: Jupiter stations direct

Mercury Retrograde: December 13 to January 2
Mercury stations retrograde at close to 8 Capricorn on December 13 and will remain retrograde until January 2. During this time  - from December 23 - the Trickster God will also retrograde back into Sagittarius.

Here are the key dates for you:
  • Retrograde from December 13 to January 2
  • In the loop  from around November 26 to January 21
  • Conjunct the Sun – Inferior Conjunction when the new cycle begins at – December 23

As the new cycle begins in Capricorn, it intensifies the challenge to re-view and re-evaluate all things connected with this archetype, especially our thinking around our career plans for 2024 plus our responsibilities. We may also be challenged to review:
  • the affairs of the house where the retrograde action takes place in your horoscope [22 Sag to 8 Capricorn]
  • Any planets and points that fall between 22 degrees of mutable signs and 8 degrees of cardinal signs
Picture
The new Mercury Cycle begins around December 23 at  close to 0 Capricorn. Please be aware that the retrograde phenomenon is activated from the time that Mercury enters the loop to the time that it leaves: around November 26 to January 21. The most chaotic times are when Mercury stations – the few days around December 13 and January 2 when Mercury adjusts to the change of direction. With Jupiter conjunct the Moon and trine the conjunction along with Neptune square to it the suggestion of cautious optimism comes to mind. Just make sure you sit with any decisions and are sure they are based on fact ...perhaps wait until after January 2 when Mercury stations direct.

The whole retrograde phase is a potent time for reflection and review … a time when we can become aware of habitual beliefs and thought patterns and make the adjustments necessary to align our thinking with the person we are now. This is a great time to meditate, reflect, research, seek answers, sort out your paperwork, return calls and generally attend to all the things you have been too busy to do earlier.

Remember, Mercury retrograde always provides us with the opportunity to free our thinking from habitual ruts and develop a more conscious set of mental attitudes and beliefs.

New Moon on December 13
The December New Moon falls on the 13th at close to 21 Sagittarius and forms a square to Neptune and a quincunx to Uranus. People with planets falling between about 19 to 25 degrees on mutable signs may find themselves triggered by this lunation.

This new Moon is putting our beliefs, faith and optimism under the spotlight. It invites - and perhaps challenges - us to expand our world view and let go limited perspectives. Given the current state of the world, this seems very relevant and is worthy of deeper reflection about how we can facilitate this. The shadow side of Sagittarius can also be activated so beware of any tendency to excess, arrogance and inflation.

Picture
Uranus is in a tight quincunx to the Sun and Moon, bringing an impulsive energy into the mix. If we feel like running away it may be a warning that we need some time out. Plans may need some fine tuning so be prepared to make some changes or accept unexpected events.

The square to Neptune suggests it may be challenging to see what is really going on at the moment. There is plenty of potential for anxiety and [self] deception if you try to force any situation so be prepared to wait. Neptune always challenges us to surrender to feeling and listen to our intuition. If you can allow yourself not to ‘know’ the answer immediately and reframe anxiety as part of the creative process, then the outcome can be both constructive and illuminating.

Whenever Neptune is activated, I feel called to remind you that Neptune is associated with Divine Love. Neptune activations always challenge us to view life from a heart centred perspective, with compassion for ourselves and others. Can you surrender to your heart and allow it to communicate with you during this time?

Full Moon on December 27
The December Full Moon falls on December 27 at close to 5 Capricorn. The chart looks quite benign with a trine to Saturn and a sextile to Jupiter but Neptune is squaring a retrograde Mercury and Mars, and Venus is opposite Uranus and square to Saturn suggesting that there is still work to do. Refer back to the section of Mercury retrograde for more information.

The activation of the Cancer / Capricorn polarity invites reflection on how we balance home life and career, public and private life, nurturing and authority, bonding and setting boundaries.  This year the lunation will activate any planets or points within a 5-degree orb of the 5 degree Cancer full moon - around 0 to 10 degrees of cardinal signs: Capricorn, Cancer, Aries and Libra.

 Summer Solstice: December 22
The Summer Solstice falls on December 22 this year and the chart contains a tight conjunction with a retrograde Mercury and similar aspects to the full moon a few days later: a square from Neptune, a trine to Jupiter and Saturn forming a sextile.

The chart is quite introspective as it falls a day before the Inferior Conjunction of Mercury and the Sun marking a new Mercury cycle. It could be a worthwhile endeavour to take some time out for reflection and inner work to honour the Sun and our personal cycles.
