September begins with, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto all retrograde but Saturn moves direct mid-month.
Note: All the dates below are for Australian Eastern Time.
  • September 14: Mercury to Libra
  • September 14: Full Moon in Pisces
  • September 14: Venus to Libra
  • September 18: Saturn stations direct
  • September 22: Jupiter square to Neptune
  • September 23: Sun to Libra / Spring Equinox
  • September 29: New Moon in Libra

The heavy retrograde energy from last month continues this month with Saturn, Chiron, Neptune and Pluto all retrograde at the beginning of the month. Remember, retrograde energy always emphasizes the process of review, reflection and re-evaluation, both personally and collectively. If things aren’t working, or you feel flat, discouraged and frustrated, accept this as an opportunity to find a new way forward and embrace this opportunity to find a new modus operandi that reflects the person that you aspire to become. The annual retrograde movement of all the superior planets from Jupiter out is a reminder that we need to undergo a regular internal stock-take and see if our outer world is congruent with our inner world.

The Full Moon on September 14  falls close to 21 Pisces with the Moon in Pisces opposing the Sun in Virgo. The Pisces Virgo polarity highlights the need for balance between the physical realm of Virgo and the emotional intuitive realm of Pisces: we are challenged to balance the practical, grounded, everyday reality of Virgo with the feeling, intuitive, imaginal and spiritual realm of Pisces. The Moon in Pisces calls us to open our hearts and see the big picture while, the Sun in Virgo challenges us to stay grounded and attend to the details. We could see this as both a call to ground our dreams in the world of form as well as to soften our perfectionist and self-critical sides.

The Full Moon forms a t-square with Jupiter at the apex and the Moon conjunct Neptune [the ruler of Pisces] opposite the Sun conjunct Mars in Virgo, bringing the energy of the Jupiter square Neptune transit into focus. This can be visionary and creative but the potential for inflation and illusion are also possible.    Jupiter’s square to Neptune on September 22 is the third and final meeting between these two planets: the first two transits were on January 14 and June 17 this year. This aspect marks the waning square in the cycle that began in 2009. The Jupiter Neptune Cycle talks of urge to transcend earthly limitations and expand our faith and view of what is possible while the danger is falling prey to illusion / delusion and perhaps ‘fake news’. Under this influence we are called to ask ourselves what is real and what is possible and not limit ourselves, but also to resist naive and inflated responses.

On the collective level the combination of these two planets – Jupiter and Neptune – has been associated with inflationary tendencies, over production, lies and ideological / religious conflict.   Personally, Jupiter can magnify any emotional state - both positive and negative - and can be impulsive and over-confident so we need to be careful to not over commit ourselves around this time. It may be wise to ground ourselves and hit the pause button if we find ourselves ready to leap into anything that we have not researched carefully, especially if you have planets around 15 to 18 degrees of mutable signs: Gemini, Virgo, Pisces and Sagittarius.

Jupiter square to Neptune can magnify our dreams and intuition but it can also magnify our illusions, delusions and escapist patterns. A warning:  sometimes if something seems too good to be true under a Jupiter  Neptune hard aspect, it may well be, so exercise caution!

The September New Moon falls close to 5 Libra on September 29 and is in a tight opposition to Chiron and an almost exact quincunx to Uranus. Both Chiron and Uranus call for authenticity and the need to be true to the Self but with caution.

Libra is symbolized by the Scales of Justice and each year this New Moon illuminates the area of our chart [and psyche] where we have a need for fairness, partnership, equality and harmony. Social justice comes sharply into focus; we may notice unfairness and inequality and feel called to take a stand on behalf of others or ourselves.   The Libran Scales of Justice also challenge us to see where we have lost our balance in our lives, especially in our relationships. The Libran New Moon is always a powerful time to attend to our partnerships – professional as well as personal – as well as all significant one-on-one relationships.

The quincunx from Uranus calls for us to explore new ways of relating. Uranus can emphasize the desire to run away, cut off or act erratically. Used in a constructive way, Uranus challenges us to make changes that allow us to be more authentic and honour the Self in all our relationships and involvements. Sit with any impulsive plans that emerge around this time to make sure they are an authentic expression of your true self, not just a reaction to your circumstances and environment.

Chiron opposes the New Moon, symbolizing an opening to the transpersonal realm. Chiron calls us to be true to our Self [or Higher Self]. Sometimes we pay a price for moving beyond the stereotyped roles and rules of the collective, but this aspect may indicate the need to stand in our truth and risk rejection; it is the call to individuate and accept ourselves [and others] with our [their] imperfections.
Chironic forms of healing may well be very powerful at this time: homeopathy, energy/ vibrational medicine and attending to the wisdom revealed through our dreams.

Spring Equinox
September 23 marks the Libra Ingress, better known as the Spring Equinox [in the southern hemisphere].  At 5.50pm Australian Eastern Standard Time the Sun will move into the sign of Libra and be exactly overhead at the equator.    The Equinox marks the time when day and night are of equal length and it is the turning point that marks the time when the daylight begins to prevail over the darkness [reverse if you live north of the equator]. From this point forward the days will grow longer as the Sun gains power and strength. It is time to let go the darkness of winter and embrace the fertility of spring.

Esoteric writers say this is a magical time when the magnetic field of the Earth is influenced by the Sun’s position directly overhead the equator. A doorway or portal opens to other realms due to a reduction in the Earth’s magnetic field. This is a powerful time for ritual and meditation that can offer us wisdom, inspiration and guidance.  The equinox portal is open for about 24 hours either side the exact moment.

 A Private Spring Equinox Ritual
Choose a candle in a colour that symbolizes your desire. Begin by having a ritual bath or shower to wash away the darkness of winter and the past year. As you bathe, see and feel the past being released so you can embrace the exciting new energy of Spring. When you are ready sit quietly, centre yourself and invoke your Highest Inspiration then call for the assistance of your Inner Warrior as you light your candle.

Reflect on what you wish to manifest in your life [making sure that you do not influence the free will of any other individual] and record you intentions in your journal or on a special piece of paper. Now sit back and visualize your desire manifesting as you gain strength and power from the Spring Sun. Most importantly FEEL the pleasure and joy that comes from the realization of your desires.
When you have finished give thanks and surrender your desires as the Universe may have other plans [often even better] than you have imagined.  Keep your candle to light whenever you need to energize your desires.

May the Goddess & God Bless You All
