Eris conjunct the North Node: November 28
Eris has been quite prominent lately as She has been sitting close to the Noth Node for a few months and was a major player in last month’s Solar Eclipse. She was part of the challenging t-square that involved the eclipse point [opposite the Sun and Moon] and square to Pluto. This month She will form an exact conjunction with the North Node on November 28.
You may remember Eris from the Covid years. As the Goddess of Strife and Discord – along with Her square to Pluto - She was a key player throughout the pandemic. Her hand was there in all the chaos and conflict that the world experienced economically and socially over lock downs, masks and vaccinations and She feels very present in the current situation in the Middle East [and Ukraine] with the conflict between Israel and Gaza as well as in the increasing politics of hate and the polarization of right and left.
The North Node is referred to as a destiny point, symbolizing something that we are challenged [personally and collectively] to work towards at its hugest level. My sense is that as a transpersonal planet Eris is acting as a catalyst to reveal personal and collective tensions and fears around feeling marginalized, being denied our ‘fair share’ and avoidance of difficult decisions by sitting on the fence when conflict arises. As a transpersonal planet She serves the soul and invites us to find win-win situations rather than stay locked in conflict. She also invites us to share and open our hearts rather than polarize into us and them. Her energy has been increasingly present since She was welcomed as a Dwarf Planet by the International Astronomical Union in 2006.
Her big challenge feels to be, can we open our hearts to each other rather than retreat into anger, hatred and competition.
Here is what I wrote about Eris in my April 2021 Newsletter.
‘Eris is the Goddess of Strife and Discord – She delights in chaos and was said to delight in hanging around battlegrounds to witness the carnage. She was also the catalyst for the Trojan War. Interestingly, She is a new addition to the planetary pantheon and astrologers are still working to understand Her energy. I don’t have time to tell you all about Her but She was the Goddess who threw the Golden Apple – inscribed ‘to the fairest’- into the midst of a wedding celebration that lead to a fierce competition for its possession.
Zeus, as leader of Olympus, abdicated responsibility because he didn’t want to upset the three goddesses who claimed it. He appointed a mere mortal, Paris, to adjudicate, a terrible failure of judgement. Eris watched on with delight as the goddesses all lied and cheated to try to receive the prize. Aphrodite received the apple and awarded Paris the bribe of the most beautiful woman in the world, who just happened to already have a husband, sparking the war between the Greeks and Trojans.
It seems that instead of the golden apple, Eris has thrown humanity COVID-19, and is now sitting back enjoying the show. What can we learn from the myth?
This is very much a myth for our times and highlights Eris as a catalyst who exposes inconvenient truths [yes, Al Gore published his book around the time Eris was named and he has Eris conjunct his Sun]. There will be many inconvenient truths nations and the global community will need to face at the end of this time. There will be leaders who lead, others who lie and avoid responsibility …we are seeing this already.
In Her dark manifestation Eris likes to cause chaos, discord and destructive competition, potentially warfare [the battleground can be trade and the media] and exposes weak leaders, BUT from an evolutionary perspective chaos can be creative and Her exposures can lead to positive change. The positive Eris will accept and speak the truth, no matter how inconvenient, demonstrate decisive leadership and be a catalyst for TRUTH and creative change. ‘
And a few more words for reflection… If we think of the polarity of all the states Eris is associated with, I believe we get an understanding of Her Mystery Teachings. She is challenging us to walk in the light, not the dark. What might this mean?
Ineffectual leadership based on power to divide becomes strong leadership motivated by the desire to heal.
We become inclusive rather than exclusive and listen with compassion to those who have been disenfranchised.
Conflict over scarce resources becomes the urge to share.
Conflict becomes co-operation.
Fear and hatred become love and peace.
The urge to inflict pain is balanced by the urge to heal and create joy
…and the urge to get lost in the dark becomes the urge to become conscious in the light.
New Moon on November 13 at 20 Scorpio
The New Moon on October 13 falls at 20 degrees of Scorpio 43 minutes and it is conjunct Mars and Ceres and in opposition to Uranus. Anyone with planets around 20 degrees of the fixed signs – Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius - will be feeling the New Moon quite strongly and it may act as a catalyst for Uranus transits that anyone with planets around here, and up to about 24 degrees of fixed signs.
Uranus is a transpersonal planet, and its energy serves the soul, not the ego, and He is always challenging us to open to change that allows us to individuate and become more authentic. His shadow side can be erratic, rebellious and stimulate the yearning to run away. If we find ourselves falling into the shadow, take some time out to reflect and see what is really going on a deeper level. It may lead to some profound changes that allows a deeper alignment with our soul.
On more fundamental level, the Scorpio New Moon will highlight the affairs of the house where 20 degrees of Scorpio falls and may challenge us with issues around power, control, trust, intimacy and safety. Scorpio’s reputation for control is a fear-based reaction of ‘holding on’ while the challenge is to ‘let go’ control and learn to trust in the Self and allow the free flowing of feeling and the opposition with Uranus is inviting us to look at these patterns and perhaps make some changes.
Full Moon in Gemini on November 27 at 4 Gemini
The full Moon on November 27 falls at 4 degrees and 51 minutes of Gemini and is opposite Mars and square to Saturn. The Gemini Full Moon always highlights the Gemini / Sagittarius polarity, putting the spotlight on communication, speaking our truth, sibling relationships, learning and the power of our mind. It is often a curious and sociable full moon, but it reminds us the ‘get the facts’ before we venture our opinions, especially with Saturn squaring the Sun and Moon.
Saturn sitting at the apex of the T-square, creates a more serious energy than the usually playful Gemini and jovial Sagittarius placements and we may be challenged to take responsibility for our words and consider them carefully before venturing an opinion. We may also be more sensitive to our Inner Critic and could benefit from harnessing Gemini’s open mind and curiosity if we find ourselves flat and self-critical.
This full moon may act as a trigger for Saturn’s transits through Pisces: anyone with planets between 0 and 7 degrees of mutable signs – Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces may feel the Saturnian energy more strongly. Saturn usually challenges us to DO something – take action – so reflecting on how we can take responsibility for any current stressful situation could be beneficial. Beware, the action Saturn prompts us to take is often uncomfortable so make sure you have your back up plan / safety net before you leap into action. The challenge is often to set clearer boundaries and claim our authority, but to do so in a way that does not unleash our critic on others.
