Welcome to 2024.
Pluto re-enters Aquarius on January 21 but will not take up residence there until November 20 after a brief return to 29 degrees of Capricorn [and the opportunity to finalize our Capricorn lessons] during September through to November. Then we will settle into the 20 year transit through Aquarius.
January suggests it back to work as usual with Mercury stationing direct on January 2 and a line-up of planets in Capricorn.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and happy New year.
December begins with Uranus and Mercury both retrograde but by the end of the month they will both have stationed direct. Note: All the dates below are for Australian Eastern Daylight Time. January 2: Mercury direct at close to 22 Sagittarius January 5: Mars to Capricorn January 11: New Moon at close to 21 Capricorn January 14: Mercury to Capricorn January 21: Sun to Aquarius January 21: Pluto enters Aquarius. January 23: Venus to Capricorn January 26: Full Moon at close to 5 Leo January 27: Uranus station direct at close to 19 Taurus
Pluto enters Aquarius on January 21 where it will stay until September 2 when it will retrograde back in Capricorn until November 20 when it will take up residence until 2043 – 4. During this time the world will undergo many changes of an Aquarian flavour, some of which we are already seeing. Androgynous and open-minded Aquarius is already challenging our ideas about gender, technology is changing at unprecedented rates as we move online and the shadow of Aquarius is evident in the fake news that is so evident in our world today. There is a greater push for more freedom and authenticity and the libertarian archetype is coming to the fore …a time of major paradigm shifts that will continue to unfold over the next 20 years as Pluto makes its way through Aquarius.
Mercury stations direct on January 2 at close to 22 Sagittarius Mercury is in the retrograde loop from around November 26 to January 21 and retrograde from December 13. This new cycle began in Capricorn, intensifying the challenge to re-view and re-evaluate all things connected with this archetype, especially our thinking around our career plans for 2024 plus our responsibilities. We may also be challenged to review:
the affairs of the house where the retrograde action takes place in your horoscope [22 Sag to 8 Capricorn]
Any planets any points that fall between 22 degrees of mutable signs and 8 degrees of cardinal signs.
Remember, Mercury retrograde always provides us with the opportunity to free our thinking from habitual ruts and develop a more conscious set of mental attitudes and beliefs. The time after Mercury moves direct until it leaves the loop – January 2 to 21 – is the time to put new plans into action.
The New Moon on January 11 at close to 21 Capricorn The Capricorn New Moon forms an exact square to the nodal axis along with a square to Chiron and Eris, a trine to Uranus, a sextile to Neptune and a very wide conjunction to Pluto that will tighten for the full moon at the end of the month.
The exact square with the nodal axis suggests that this is a pivotal time when key decisions will be made that will influence us throughout the year. The trine from Uranus suggests greater freedom but the squares from Eris and Chiron suggests old woundings and competition over scarce resources could play out. Eris is very active in what is happening in both Ukraine and Gaza at the moment.
The Capricorn New Moon is always powerful time to reflect on how we relate to the Capricorn archetype which includes father and authority figures [external and internal], as well as the world of career, ambition and achievement. Capricorn is also associated with the super ego with its heightened sense of duty and responsibility. On a personal level this new moon [being very widely conjunct Pluto] is inviting us all to transform [Pluto] our relationship with the archetype of authority – both externally and internally – and to face any fears and self-destructive beliefs and habits that have developed, especially regards the house in our personal horoscope where 21 degrees of Capricorn is located.
The Full Moon on January 26 at close to 5 Leo With Pluto opposite the full moon this could be a year of transformation, especially for people born with planets around very late Capricorn and very early Aquarius or late cardinal or early fixed signs [Aries, Cancer, Libra & Capricorn as well as Taurus, Leo, Scorpio & Aquarius]. Jupiter squaring the full moon will emphasize whatever is going on for us and could act as a catalyst for change.
Pluto invites and challenges us to shed outworn identities and self-limiting patterns that we have held onto due to fear, grief or anger. He always invites us to take a deep dive and own our shadow. Often patterns and defenses that arise from our need to protect our self from facing whatever we may have buried deep in the psyche become more evident and available for transformational work.
Generally speaking, full moons highlight a sign and house polarity as the Moon opposes the Sun. This full moon emphasizes the Leo / Aquarius polarity and asks us to reflect on how we balance these two energies. The Leo archetype encompasses the performer and the monarch [King and Queen] while the Aquarian archetype includes the rebel, the reformer, the humanitarian and the social worker. Leo’s challenge is to master the ego while the Aquarian challenge is to be a vehicle for reform and social change.
Leo is a fire sign and its special gifts are leadership, charisma and enthusiasm. The full Moon in Leo invites us to become aware of what ‘feeds our fire’ and brings passion and joy into our lives. It highlights our need to find and express our special gifts and share them with the world, or at least with those who are near and dear to us. We may all feel the need to be validated and special …this is a gift you can give your loved ones at this time.
This is a wonderful time to validate the people who inspire you, beware of the shadow side of Leo, the Lion who is not validated and resorts to disruptive and attention seeking behaviour. Try to become conscious or your own needs for recognition and find some healthy outlets for them.
